Day 1

From my walking during the campaign, I have collected a list of neighborhood concerns that I will be presenting to the city manager when I have been placed in office. This list includes the following (I invite comments for other items I have missed.
  • Forclosed lots in Lake Meeler are overgrown and silt fences are inadequite. The city must enforce its ordinances to make the bank which owns these lots maintain them.
  • City lacks an enforceable ordinance to disallow illegal kennels in residential neighborhoods. These kennels are a significant public nusance where they are found (Laurel Springs, Stonehenge) and a potential health threat.
  • City is not observing its responsibility for safely removing runoff in some neighborhoods and is dumping water it has collected (and is therefore legally responsible for) back onto properties in Holly Hills and the Village at Jennings Mill causing real damage to property
  • Athens is neglecting its responsibility to condemn and acquire properties that have become real public nusances in Tremont and Huntington.
  • Rental Creep needs to be monitored in Holiday Estates so the quality of the neighborhood is maintained.

This is a partial list so far. I will add more and update this post as I compile my notes.
